RED Digital Cinema Komodo

The Komodo is the smallest member of the RED Digital Cinema camera line, offering all the hallmarks of a RED cinema camera while being incredibly compact and affordable. This allows us to offer exceptional image quality, resolution, and performance at a price that works for our clients.

The camera features a 6K sensor with very high dynamic range and a global shutter, a first for RED. This offers a number of advantages over most other camera systems, most notably it’s ability to resolve camera and subject motion without warping, making the Komodo perfect for capturing fast-paced action such as automotive content, as well as handheld work which will feel more natural and less jarring to the viewer. The global shutter is also able to capture short bursts of light like camera flashes, sparks, or lightning without banding or image tearing, making it great for red carpet, industrial, or nature work.

As with all RED cameras, the Komodo utilizes RED’s REDCODE RAW codec, which offers unparalleled flexibility in color correction and grading in a way that won’t bog down an editing system. Coupled with the sensor’s high dynamic range, this ensures we can achieve the look our clients are after, with no compromises. The camera is also capable of 2K and 4K ProRes capture without sacrificing dynamic range for projects with specific codec requirements.

The Komodo also has a number of other features that make it perfect for a wide range of situations and productions: It has integrated wifi communication, allowing operators to control every function of the camera remotely via the RED Control app and even see a low-latency real-time view of the image. It utilizes Canon’s RF lens mount, giving it access a wide range of lens options including Canon EF, B4 news-style lenses, and PL, the cinema industry standard.

Despite all these features, it is RED’s smallest camera to date, making it a perfect choice for gimbal and drone work. It can go places many other cinema cameras cannot, and its small form factor make it incredibly versatile for a whole host of project types.
